Ingredients

  • ½ cup about 60–70 g fresh ginger root, scrubbed and roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup about 30–35 g fresh turmeric root, scrubbed and roughly chopped
  • Or 1½–2 tsp ground turmeric if fresh is unavailable
  • 2 medium lemons peeled (remove most of the white pith), seeds removed
  • 1 medium orange peeled, seeds removed
  • –2 cups 360–480 ml water (start with 1½ cups and adjust)
  • ¼ –½ tsp freshly ground black pepper for turmeric absorption
  • Optional: ⅛–¼ tsp cayenne pepper for extra kick
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp maple syrup or honey to taste

Instructions

  • Prep the Ingredients
  • Scrub ginger and turmeric well; peel only if skin is very tough or dirty.
  • Roughly chop ginger and turmeric into small pieces.
  • Peel lemons and orange, removing most of the bitter white pith; discard seeds.
  • Blend the Mixture
  • Add chopped ginger, turmeric, peeled lemons, and orange to a blender.
  • Pour in 1½ cups water, add black pepper, and cayenne and sweetener if using.
  • Blend on high for 1 minute, rest for 30–60 seconds, then blend again for another 30–60 seconds until very smooth.
  • Strain the Juice
  • Place a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or nut‑milk bag over a bowl or large measuring jug.
  • Pour the blended mixture through the strainer.
  • Press with a spoon or squeeze the cloth/bag to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Discard the pulp or save it for smoothies.
  • Bottle and Chill
  • Transfer the strained liquid to a glass jar or bottle with a lid.
  • Taste and adjust with extra lemon, water, or sweetener if desired.
  • Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve the Shots
  • Shake the jar well before each use (turmeric can settle).
  • Pour 1 small shot (about 30–45 ml) and drink straight, or dilute with a little water or coconut water if too strong.
  • Enjoy 1 shot per day, preferably in the morning.

Notes

Spice level: Adjust cayenne and ginger amount based on your tolerance; you can start milder and build up over time.
Black pepper: Do not skip; it significantly improves your body’s ability to absorb curcumin from turmeric.
No fresh turmeric: Use ground turmeric and blend thoroughly; be careful with staining on surfaces.
Leftover pulp: Add a spoonful to smoothies or oatmeal for extra fiber and flavor.
